Ted Leo's "I don't usually do bulletins, but..."
It's true, he usually doesn't but as he said: "This wound up being kind of interesting: Set your mp3 player on shuffle. Use each title that comes up to fill in the answers. No cheating (this means you).
The song that plays when you enter a room:
"It's So Easy," Buddy Holly & the Crickets
(provided the door doesn't stick, I suppose)
The first thing you think when you wake up:
"Static Age," The Misfits
(my ears are that bad)
Thought going through your head right now:
"Scrape Away," The Jam
(?)
Your philosophy on life:
"The Ordinary Boys," Morrissey
(in some ways, yeah)
Your philosophy on love:
"White & Green Place," Maximum Joy
(??)
Your philosophy on sex:
"Set the House Ablaze," The Jam
(no comment)
Your best asset:
"What's my Name?" The Clash
(word)
Your worst vice:
"Two Way Monologue," Sondre Lerche
(I don't do that)
Your biggest fear:
"What to Do," Buddy Holly
(not true either)
Your superpower:
"Get Your Hands off my Woman," The Darkness
(no comment)
Your dream job:
"Rock for Light," Bad Brains
(nice work, if you can get it)
Your preference in a mate:
"Fade Away," Pegboy
(ouch)
Your outlook on marriage:
"Clash City Rockers," The Clash
(that's kind of a cool way to look at it, I guess)
Your political stance:
"Never Surrrender," Blitz
(now that's more like it)
Your favorite topic of conversation:
"Push Yourself - Make it Work," Ruts DC meets the Mad Professor
(I mean, sometimes, I guess)
Keeps you awake at night:
"Anyone who Knows What Love is (will understand)," Irma Thomas
(best one so far)
The name of your first solo album:
"Freelove on the Freelove Freeway," David Brent
(truly, it should have been)
Where you'll be in 10 years:
"Silent Fellowship," The Waterboys
(doesn't sound too bad)
How you want to die:
"Heaven Knows I'm Miserable now," The Smiths
(true 'dat)
Your last words:
"Love Came to Me," Dion & the Belmonts
(heavy!)
Your epitaph:
"Human Rights," HR
(dang - even heavier)"
---
Anyway, I'm following his lead, so here's mine:
The song that plays when you enter a room:
"Hold My Life," The Replacements
(easy on the cheese please)
The first thing you think when you wake up:
"This Jazz Ain't Free," Monorchid
(actual lyrics from the song: "I don't need no ball & chain!")
Thought going through your head right now:
"I'm In Love With A Girl," Big Star
(The boy I like is effeminate, but I wouldn't call him a girl...)
Your philosophy on life:
"Triumphant," Röyksopp
(it's an instrumental: starts off hypnotic then gets loud and chaotic. & it's not my fave song but i don't mind it, so yeah - pretty accurate)
Your philosophy on love:
"Clown Strike," Elvis Costello
(haa! hahahahahahahahahahahah!)
Your philosophy on sex:
"Over (Live @ Roseland, NYC)," Portishead
(Actual lyrics from the song: "To tread this fantasy, openly, what have I done. Oh, this uncertainty, Is taking me over.")

(OMG)
Your worst vice:
"Rough Gem," Islands
(Diamonds are a girl's best...)
Your biggest fear:
"Only A Lad," Oingo Boingo
(wokka wokka)
Your superpower:
"Do You Like Boys?," Starbuck
(I totally love this song. Fruit fly, much?)
Your dream job:
"My Funny Valentine," Chet Baker
(Actual song lyrics: "Yet you're my favorite work of art.")
Your preference in a mate:
"A Call," Barr
(Somehow, somewhere this makes sense to someone.)
Your outlook on marriage:
"Everybody Here Wants You (Jeff Buckley cover)," Matthew Herbert & Dani Siciliano
(What. the. hell. does. this. mean?)
Your political stance:
"Marble House," The Knife
(Actual song lyrics: "Some things I do for money, some things I do for free" - WTF)
Your favorite topic of conversation:
"Death of a Disco Dancer," The Smiths
(Actual song lyrics: "Love, peace, and harmoney - very nice, but maybe in the next world.")
Keeps you awake at night:
"Feed Me With Your Kiss," My Bloody Valentine
(my bloody valentine keeps me awake at night & feeds me with a kiss)
The name of your first solo album:
"Annie Get Your Gun," Squeeze
(Actual song lyrics: "She's gone electric. That's unexpected.")
Where you'll be in 10 years:
"Beauty Trip," Television
(Dr. 90210, much?)
How you want to die:
"Swordfish," Wires On Fire
(?)
Your last words:
"Go Out And Get 'Em Boy," The Wedding Present
(Actual song lyrics: "You want to take it all and make it last forever or maybe just a lifetime" - the entire song is brilliant, btw.)
Your epitaph:
"How Much For Your Wings?," The Black Crowes
(Lovely.)

Breakfast On Pluto - movie + soundtrack
IMDB writes a puny review ("As foster kid Patrick "Kitten" Braden (Murphy) grows up, he leaves behind his small-town life in Ireland for London, where he's reborn as a transvestite cabaret singer in the 1960s and 70s."), but some user named JBmovieguy did a great wrap-up, even if he did spell Ireland wrong in his blurb: "Breakfast on Pluto is the story of a young transvestite from Irland who goes looking for his long lost mother in Scotland during the revolution. He meets many very weird people along the way and runs into many weird situations but no matter how weird the characters and situations are the actors and director/writer never lose sight of the characters and the story. They never allow the huge urge to over do it take over. They make us deeply care for the characters no matter how bizarre they are, no matter how much we would hate to meet them ourselves. It is actually rather amazing and a huge achievement. The performances are completely brilliant, Cillian Murphy in particular is just mind blowing as Kitten the lead. There are also some fantastic performances by Liam Neeson, Stephen Ry, and Brendan Gleeson but it truly is Murphy that will blow you away. His performance is one of cinema's best. He should have won the Oscar. A rather brilliant film."
Totally great movie, especially if you like "Hedwig & The Angry Inch" and "Velvet Goldmine" and have always meshed both movies in your head out of fondness. The soundtrack is great:
1. The Rubettes - Sugar Baby Love
2. Joe Dolan - You're Such a Good Looking Woman
3. Harry Nilsson - You're Breakin' My Heart
4. Don Partridge - Breakfast on Pluto
5. Harry Nilsson - Me and My Arrow
6. Bobby Goldsboro - Honey
7. Patti Page - (How Much Is) that Doggy in the Window
8. Santo & Johnny - Caravan
9. Morris Albert - Feelings
10. Dusty Springfield - The Windmills of your Mind
11. Gavin Friday & Cillian Murphy - Sand
12. T-Rex - Children of the Revolution
13. Gavin Friday - Wig Wam Bam
*Ewan McGregor and Jonathan Rhys Meyers started making biggie films after their stint in draggish attire, now for Cillian... ?
