To the Pitchfork Festival Massive (a message from Cut Copy)

To the Pitchfork Festival massive:

We want to extend our sincere and immense gratitude to our fans in Chicago (and those who traveled to town for the Pitchfork Festival) for enduring the results of the crazy day we had yesterday.

Our plane was sadly stuck on the runway in San Francisco for over 5 hours, causing a mad rush to the festival, a 5 minute load-in and setup, and a much shorter set than we had planned or would have liked to do.

We are truly sorry about this, but the short set we were able to pull off before the noise curfew was thrilling for us. Those of you who stuck around energized us, and your seemingly never-ending hollering, foot stomping and whooping for an encore (we sadly couldn't provide due to city ordinances) will stay with us forever.

Thanks again, and thanks for the crew at the festival for being graceful enough to roll with it. We look forward to doing it properly in Chicago in September.

Much love,
Cut Copy

Olivia Arrow's "The Feather Girl Project"

It was probably over a year ago now, but I partook in an art project spearheaded by my friend and zine-queen Olivia Arrow. The whole story behind this interesting project can be read in her manifesto below. (Also located in the downloadable pdf linked below.)

Olivia Arrow features my piece as the first one in the series!
I used sentimental images (of course) and my very own eyelashes.

Here's the original:

"Over a year ago, perhaps going on two, I had done a line drawing of a friend for her to use on her upcoming birthday invitations. I photocopied the drawing and did several versions for her to choose from. I then mailed them to her. The package never arrived at her home, nor was it ever returned to me. Art lost forever in the postal system! Unable to accept the loss, I decided to replace the work, even though it was too late for it to be used as the intended birthday invites. This time I would employ friends and family. The idea evolved into a desire to make a book of all the different versions. After viewing the first few, I soon realized a book would not do the works justice, unless I had a couple grand to spend on printing costs. Instead, I have created this file for you to enjoy at your convenience, where you can zoom in, see the texture and color clearly, and even print out your favorites to save. All works are original and not to be reproduced for sale or commercial use, but to enjoy the range of styles that makes this project so fun. With artists from California to Germany, aged 6 to 50-something, you can see that every participant has their own unique way of looking at and tackling the same piece. I was so excited to see what each person came up with, always surprised and impressed at the variety of imagination and creativity. I also left the first page as it originated, for you to experiment with your own version!" XOXOlivia

Boredoms' 88Boadrum in L.A. & Brooklyn on 8/8/08

From Brooklyn Vegan:

"Boredoms' 88Boadrum in L.A. & Brooklyn on 8/8/08, (thx Nike)
77Boadrum in Brooklyn - 7/7/07 (more)

...Japanese psych-noise-crazy-genius-types Boredoms will once again bring the clattering of oh-so-many drums to the States this summer, in a bi-coastal sequel to last year's wildly successful 77BoaDrum event. This time out, they're calling it 88BoaDrum, and performances of the brand new 88-minute composition from Boredoms leader Eye will take place August 8 (8/8/08, you see) in both Los Angeles and Brooklyn, New York.

The Los Angeles event will take place beginning at 8:08 PM PST at the city's famed La Brea Tar Pits, and will feature 88 drummers selected by both the Boredoms and 88Boadrum artistic director Hisham Bharoocha of Soft Circle. The New York event, conducted on behalf of the Boredoms by Brooklyn's own Gang Gang Dance, goes down at 8:08 PM EST at the Williamsburg waterfront.
Both BoaDrums will be free and open to the public, but tickets will be required for entry. They'll be available starting Friday, July 18 at brownpapertickets.com, at L.A.'s Amoeba Records and the L.A. County Museum of Art, or at New York's Other Music and Sound Fix Records. Only one ticket will be available per person."

celestronica & love affair (july 2008 mix)

I'm sure you've been there... inviting someone over to "listen to records" (or watch movies) when really your motives lean towards that of a saliva exchange.

(((You sneaky bugger.)))

The problem with this, is if you're really into the make-out session is that your playlist runs dead (ipod). Your random/shuffle selection picks something downright killer (mood killer, that is), or if you're so suave as to be handling vinyl - you have to switch sides or else you're cursed with the repeated white noise of the end of Side A.

Hopefully in most of your kissing parties, you've reached a point to where you can care less if Suicidal Tendencies are there in the flesh, playing in your living room to you and your make out buddy stripping down to your skivvies to exchange DNA. But there are times when, either the mood hasn't reached its peak, you just don't take the meeting of the mouths too seriously, you've had too many laugh inducing substances, or the song that comes up is just holds too much irony for you to stifle your memory.

Whether I laughed out loud, ran off altogether, or politely made a mental note - this month's mix holds those songs that were too memorable to erase, for one reason or another...

5. Enter Sandman - Metallica
6. Feel Like Makin' Love - Bad Company
7. Just One Kiss (Extended Mix) - The Cure
8. Blue Hawaiian - Pavement
9. Trashing Days - The Notwist
10. Love Buzz - Nirvana
11. Cigarettes & Alcohol - Oasis

13. Complicated Girl - Bangles

16. I Believe In You - Neil Young

POP QUIZ - WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MAKE-OUT SONG AND WHY?

ps) There was one time when some dude in high school played a Smashing Pumpkins CD on repeat and that was memorable in the way it was absolutely fucking horrible - but I dare not have you partake in such practices of musical occult.
