Tokidoki for Onitsuka Tiger™

This is what we're going to be showcasing
in Miami during Winter Music Conference for Onitsuka Tiger™!

Perfect Blend Of Function And Fashion

Onitsuka Tiger is excited to announce an upcoming collaboration with tokidoki. Created by Italian artist Simone Legno, tokidoki is a colorful world of spritely characters that draws influence from Japanese art and culture. Tokidoki started as Legno’s personal web site to showcase his art but with the help of passionate business partners, has created a brand that appeals to a huge audience worldwide.

The partnership with Onitsuka Tiger will bring together two unique facets of Japanese culture. Onitsuka Tiger’s strong history of creating outstanding athletics products married with tokidoki’s modern interpretation of Japanese art will create the perfect blend of function and fashion.

Onitsuka Tiger will work with tokidoki to create two collections a year for the next two years, beginning in May 2008.

MELLOWDRONE TO PERFORM VALENTINE’S DAY SHOW AT SPACELAND, LOS ANGELES. CANNED FOOD DRIVE FOR THE LOS ANGELES REGIONAL FOOD BANK.

When Jennifer Tefft of Spaceland Productions approached Mellowdrone to return to perform at Spaceland, they immediately had something special in mind: A Valentine’s Day show that takes away from the consumer-centered “holiday” and gives back to their home town of Los Angeles; A sort of Valentine’s Day gift to the city itself, and every song a love note to the city from its not-so-secret admirers in the band.

The L.A. Regional Food Bank website’s front-page states, “One out of every ten people in Los Angeles County is at risk of hunger.” The Los Angeles Regional Foodbank is a private, nonprofit, charitable organization that has been serving the disadvantaged of our community for 33 years. They are at the heart of a charitable food distribution network that includes over 1,000 charities in Los Angeles County.

Though Valentine’s Day (or humorously, “Singles Awareness Day” or “SAD”) has increasingly become a holiday that exists primarily for commercial purposes, concert goers are encouraged to turn the purpose around to help others in the community: A discounted ticket price is offered at the door when someone brings a can of food to Spaceland to donate. The hope here is to help people become aware of this and other locahttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifl charities; That every day things they can do to assist do help – even when there is not an immediate crisis involved; And of course, to feel good about having a good time!

More information on the food bank will also be available at the show.

YOUR LIPS YOUR LIPS

JUSTIN DAVID

ps) Today, upon personally inviting someone to the show, some writer guy said "great idea...but convince most girls to go to a homeless drive on valentines day...i'm seriously not being calloused, im just saying that u got some uphill fight on that particular day." I realize there is some truth to that, but the sheer underestimation of the kindness and love that humans have greatly saddened me. I told him that I disagree and that I think we just have opposing views because a - I'm a girl and b - the show is selling handsomely. Many of you are attending, (+ many of you are girls) so even if this dude *thinks* we're all gold digging girls who only think about ourselves, I'm so glad that you have proven him wrong and you provide me with faith and truth. xoxo
The whole idea in doing this show to begin with was to have a good time and take a little back from this Hallmark holiday, and to provide a little love to those who need it - not just on Valentine's Day but every day.
Don't get me wrong, I know that it's a special day for significant others and I understand if you can't make it because you have sexy time plans. But please know that even if you can't donate at our show at Spaceland, there are many places where you can donate.

American Football

It's pretty safe to say that I don't care much for American football, but yesterday had me going to my friend Paula's Superbowl party, and watching the Giants come back in the fourth quarter in The Living Room's little bar television. The best was whizzing by on quiet streets with the radio announcer screaming about how many minutes left were on the board... and the Giants winning - then watching people jump up and down in the middle of the street. Felt foreign but cool being inside that kind of sports history in the winning city against The Patriots, whose only game they lost this season happened to be the big one. (Way to blow it dudes.) I kind of understand sports fever now, after witnessing it first hand. Anyway, my travel mates & band I manage, Mellowdrone, have the pleasure of going to the losing city the day after the Super Bowl, playing Great Scott in Boston, MA tonight. I, however, am staying put in Brooklyn to have a work day while they rock and roll it.

cloverfield (yeah, me too)

I just got back from watching Cloverfield at Paramount (thanks to Summer!) and while I expected not to like it - the chaos, fright, tragedy, and comedy - had me coming out of the theater with near-real shock, worry and panic (gotta make an appointment with shrink this week as a result) applauding: BRAVA! MORE! MORE!

No seriously, I think it's the best escapist/scary/sci-fi/terror-filled movie I've seen in quite a long long while.

***(MAYBE) SPOILER ALERT***

Thoughts:

  • The motion-sickness thing seems to be really played up. I was more affected by the panic.
  • I completely understand how people were upset, affected and reminded of real-life events that have occurred in lower Manhattan.
  • Summer and I both think that in the subway-running-into-room scene we heard the little thing say "NOM NOM NOM"
  • And then... in the stairwell... while the little thing got axed, I swear it said "DO NOT WANT"
