Chaka Khan's "I Feel For You"

I woke up at an ungodly 7a today. (Note post time.) I can't really go back to sleep, so I began to sift clothes for the clothes swap we're having later today. It is so bright an shiny today - it seems that perhaps everything that is hit by the sunlight is made out of aluminum instead of it's organic elements like water and leaves, blades of grass, squirrels... but maybe it always looks like this so early in the morning. I haven't seen it this early lately, and even then very rarely... I've missed every single flight I should have been awake for this early, so not even that can't wake me up!

I went to the Troubador last night to see my boys in Battles play. They were fantastic, per usual (but far from usual)! The cutest thing is that my very good pal and Tyondai's gf, Grace, had her family in tow - cousin April, dad and stepmom. And they stayed for the entire set, I loved it! I haven't seen Grace's dad since sometime in the late 90s, and it was great to see him. It was also my business partner's, Adam, first time seeing Battles and it's always a pleasure for me to bring a newbie to a show. I was talking to this kid outside who bummed me a cigarette, and he said Battles was too "fast" for him and that he needed melody. I told him there IS a melody in there, he's just not listening hard enough. After I asked, he said his top two faves of the moment are Beck and Weezer. Hello 1994, anyone? He did know who Mastodon was... which is weird, given his aforementioned faves. The highlight: Finally getting a Battles tote bag. I've only waited 3 years for them to not run out by the time they get to me! So yeah, my point is (it always takes me awhile to get there) that I stayed up pretty fucking late last night and yet here I am, now 751a and wide awake.

I turned on Vh1 Classic and on was "I Feel For You" by Chaka Khan. What an optimistic way to wake up... And did you know that Prince wrote it? And that Stevie Wonder is the harmonica on it? True.
