While some complain that the music is so loud they can't even think, others thrive on and build a career out of that same loud music. But since loud music is not appropriate in the average office setting, imagine instead treading in the shoes of 857 Collective co-founders Adam Hobbs and Celeste Tabora, music and media marketing mavericks.
"If I had an office, I would come up with every excuse in the world not to go in," said Hobbs, alluding to the idea that standard commercial office space is not necessarily conducive to coming up with the newest and freshest promotions. "I feel like my home environment gives me the inertia to take my mind out of the office, and not be so template-oriented."
Instead, Hobbs and Tabora — based out of their homes in the Silver Lake and Echo Park neighborhoods of L.A., respectively — pride themselves on delivering their clients, who range from music artists to entertainment and consumer product brands, a different kind of promotion.
"A lot of our ideas come from being able to step away for a second," said Tabora, who is committed to carrying out innovation rather than pack mentality.
A critical trait for any professional, the duo responds to every opportunity to present their unique qualifications. "That's how 857 stays afloat and stays ahead of the competition: we do things that are completely different and we take chances with some of the ideas we put together. We're just crazy enough to think 'that might work!' " Hobbs said.
For example, at the SXSW music and media event in Austin last month, 857 Collective participated with a team of artists, event partners and sponsors to produce a two-day event billed as "Mess With Texas."
"We decided that we wanted to have really cool bands, wanted it to be free, open to the public and all ages, and wanted people to laugh — which is why we added the element of comedy," explained Hobbs.
These elements added something new and different to the SXSW events many attendees have learned to expect, Hobbs said.
Drawing on their experience and first-hand knowledge of the music scene, Hobbs and Tabora assume a leadership role in campaigns that often target young music fans and engage them with new artists and products.
Hobbs, formerly of the marketing team at Capitol Records, and Tabora, formerly of the corporate team at Target, share the responsibilities of 857 Collective with Tabora taking the lead on publicity and Hobbs taking the lead on marketing and promotions.
"We've created a business around the lifestyle that music provides. We're out there at the shows, in the clubs," Hobbs explained. "The music climate is constantly changing, and that's something that our competition doesn't identify with at all."

McLusky's "To Hell With Good Intentions"
S.O.S.
Currently totally re-obsessed with this fucking song. If I don't come up for air by weekend's end, send help.
From wikipedia:
Mclusky was a three-piece rock group from Cardiff, Wales. The group consisted of Andy "Falco" Falkous (vocals, guitar), Jonathan Chapple (bass, vocals) and Jack Egglestone (drums), who replaced previous drummer Matthew Harding in late 2003.
History
According to the band, they originally formed in 1996 when Falkous and Harding met at the Blackwood Miners Institute, a venue in their home town from which they were both ejected for dressing as miners. The pair met Jon a short time afterwards at the Reading Festival when they caught Chapple urinating on their tent late in the night.
More realistically it has been suggested that Andy and Matthew met when working together at Anglian Windows, a small double-glazing call centre in Cardiff. They discussed their musical ambitions after a conversation about Reading Festival, Falkous gave Harding a tape of songs he had written on his own, and shortly after they formed a band called Best after early Beatles drummer Pete Best. The original bass player for Best was Geraint Bevan, Harding's old musical comrade from The Derelicts.
Best existed in this form for almost a year before Geraint left to concentrate on his acting career, but not before Best had played a show with a band called 'Myrtle' who happened to feature one animated character on bass guitar, Jon Chapple.
Shortly after the departure of Geraint the remaining two members managed to convince Jon to join the band; this was based on the strength of the three track demo Best had recently finished at 'Ocean Studios' in Cardiff (this cassette - which was sold by the band themselves - was the unofficial debut, entitled the Benedict EP).
Best signed to London label Seriously Groovy and released their official debut record, the 3-track single Huwuno.
The band changed its name to mclusky in 1999, releasing their first full-length album My Pain and Sadness is More Sad and Painful Than Yours in 2000 on the Fuzzbox imprint before drawing international attention with their critically praised second album Mclusky Do Dallas in 2002. In 2004 they released their third album The Difference Between Me and You Is That I'm Not on Fire to generally positive reviews.
They worked frequently with recording engineer Steve Albini, whose influence through his now-legendary work with bands like the Pixies and The Jesus Lizard, along with his own bands Big Black and Shellac, can be easily recognised in mclusky's dense, raw sound.
The Break-Up
The band called it quits on January 7th 2005, with Falco making the following announcement on the band's website on January 10th:
The three piece rock band known as mclusky have disbanded, as of Friday January 7th, 2005. The reason for this parting is private, though probably not as entertaining as you'd imagine. Personally, I would like to thank all the people, places and times that occurred on or near us. I'm grateful for the love and to a lesser degree, the hate. There'll be more music soon, from all of us.
Little was said of the reasons behind mclusky's split, but it later emerged that tensions had arisen between Falco and Chapple. The root of these tensions can be traced back to an incident in 2004 when all of the band's equipment was stolen on the Arizona leg of their American tour (this equipment - worth over £5000 - has still not been recovered).

My love is bigger than your love
We take more drugs than a touring funk band
Sing it
My love is bigger than your love
Sing it
My love is bigger than your love
Sing it
My band is better than your band
We've got more songs than a song convention
Sing it
My love is bigger than your love
Sing it
My love is bigger than your love
Sing it
And we're all going straight to hell
My dad is bigger than your dad
He's got eight cars and a house in Ireland
Sing it
My love is bigger than your love
Sing it
My love is bigger than your love
Sing it
When we gonna torch the restaurant?
Sing it
When we gonna pay the guide dog?
Sing it
My love is bigger than your love
Sing it
My love is bigger than your love
Sing it
And we're all going straight to hell
My love is bigger than your love
We take more drugs than a touring funk band
Sing it
My love is bigger than your love
Sing it
My love is bigger than your love
Sing it
When we gonna torch the restaurant?
Sing it
When we gonna get excited?
Sing it
My love is bigger than your love
Sing it
My love is bigger than your love
Sing it
And we're all going straight to hell

It's getting dark...
Yo dudes. We're experiencing power outages in Los Angeles today...
See full story on Reuters:
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - High winds caused power outages for about 130,000 electricity customers in Southern California on Thursday afternoon, utility company officials said.
The hardest-hit area was in Los Angeles County where the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power noted about 91,000 outages around 4 p.m. PDT, an LADWP spokeswoman said.
The numbers were climbing, she said, and are likely to increase.
"Because the numbers are so great, it will take at least 10 to 12 hours before service can be restored to most of the customers," said LADWP spokeswoman Gale Harris.

My 2 ¢entavo$ on Flavorpill's WMC report (b/w Lo-Fi-Fink's Boylife)
FROM FLAVORPILL:
Best of WMC: the VIP questionnaire!
They say that hindsight is 20:20, but we're not so sure: running around Miami fueled by little more than Vitamin Water and soy chips, we found our vision blurry enough during WMC itself. Since returning home, catching up on sleep has helped relieve the pressure in our heads, but many of the week's moments are evaporating like wisps of a dream. Fortunately, we've got a great Flickr photo gallery up to help jog our memories. Better yet, we've assembled a dazzling, many-angled portrait of WMC 2007 as it was lived by DJs, promoters, label reps, publicists, and punters like ourselves. We polled an all-star panel to find out the highs and lows of their WMC experiences; read on for their strange, occasionally shocking, and entirely true (except when they've been kinda, sorta embellished) accounts. They came, they saw, they raved — and they lived to tell the tale.
My 2¢ in these sections:
Top records of WMC?
Klaxons, "Myths of the Near Future" — does anyone else feel as if Klaxons should have been at WMC?!
—Celeste Tabora, VP of Publicity, the 857 Collective (Los Angeles, CA)
Did you discover any new records or artists?
I finally got to see Lo-Fi-Fnk and was pleasantly surprised!

Craziest moment you saw or experienced?
Some random guy licked my face. Yeah. Some random guy licked my face.
