FOO FIGHTERS DENOUNCE UNAUTHORIZED USE OF THEIR MUSIC BY MCCAIN CAMPAIGN

Having received confirmed press reports that John McCain has been using Foo Fighters' "My Hero" as the latest in a number of unauthorized theme songs at his campaign rallies without seeking permission from the band, its management, record label or publisher, Foo Fighters have issued the following statement: This isn't the first time the McCain campaign has used a song without making any attempt to get approval or permission from the artist. It's frustrating and infuriating that someone who claims to speak for the American people would repeatedly show such little respect for creativity and intellectual property. The saddest thing about this is that 'My Hero' was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential. To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song. We hope that the McCain campaign will do the right thing and stop using our song--and start asking artists' permission in general!

Gear stolen in Rome: Pelican & Che Arthur

Please help!

i'm currently on tour in europe doing sound for pelican.

on friday we were in rome and decided to stop for a few minutes on the way to the show to see the coliseum. we parked nearby and walked a few blocks to the coliseum. 20 or so minutes later we returned and found the van window broken and all of our personal bags stolen.

we lost computers, credit cards, passports, personal journals, you name it. pretty much everything. needless to say, this is quite a crippling blow for all of us.

personally, i lost my computer, my phone, medication i have to take every day, several of my microphones, my ipod, and more.

all told, i lost roughly $4000 worth of stuff, which for me is a devastating amount.

in light of that, both pelican and i have created paypal accounts for donations that anyone might be kind enough to send our way to help us climb out of this financial disaster.

paypal donations to me can be sent to chearthurrobbed@gmail.com.

paypal donations to pelican can be sent to pelicanrobbed@gmail.com.

Just because you have a camera...

Since when does having a digital SLR entitle you to push your way into a dressing room or stage or DJ booth? (If you feel like you're being an asshole doing it and you feel you don't belong - it's because you are being an asshole doing it and you don't belong.)

Sure, I take lots of pictures when I'm hanging out - of people I know. It's already annoying enough when you have a huge flash of light violating your pupils by someone you don't know, and then to have the whole party of people you're with bummed out by you and your bulging lens. Not everyone who goes out wants to be on your website. I don't care how they do it in Williamsburg, Hollywood.

At least the little Russian girls who were shooting street fashion at ATP NY were asking if it was okay. Which was SO nice - and took only a second.

Thanks Bronques and Cobrasnizzle for setting this trend - I loved it when it was just you - but now every kid can ask for one "fancy camera" for Christmas and create a crappy website titled something about getting popular as if to entice you to actually *want* to be on it. Where did the art in this art form go?
