When Jennifer Tefft of Spaceland Productions approached Mellowdrone to return to perform at Spaceland, they immediately had something special in mind: A Valentine’s Day show that takes away from the consumer-centered “holiday” and gives back to their home town of Los Angeles; A sort of Valentine’s Day gift to the city itself, and every song a love note to the city from its not-so-secret admirers in the band.
The L.A. Regional Food Bank website’s front-page states, “One out of every ten people in Los Angeles County is at risk of hunger.” The Los Angeles Regional Foodbank is a private, nonprofit, charitable organization that has been serving the disadvantaged of our community for 33 years. They are at the heart of a charitable food distribution network that includes over 1,000 charities in Los Angeles County.
Though Valentine’s Day (or humorously, “Singles Awareness Day” or “SAD”) has increasingly become a holiday that exists primarily for commercial purposes, concert goers are encouraged to turn the purpose around to help others in the community: A discounted ticket price is offered at the door when someone brings a can of food to Spaceland to donate. The hope here is to help people become aware of this and other locahttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifl charities; That every day things they can do to assist do help – even when there is not an immediate crisis involved; And of course, to feel good about having a good time!
More information on the food bank will also be available at the show.

ps) Today, upon personally inviting someone to the show, some writer guy said "great idea...but convince most girls to go to a homeless drive on valentines day...i'm seriously not being calloused, im just saying that u got some uphill fight on that particular day." I realize there is some truth to that, but the sheer underestimation of the kindness and love that humans have greatly saddened me. I told him that I disagree and that I think we just have opposing views because a - I'm a girl and b - the show is selling handsomely. Many of you are attending, (+ many of you are girls) so even if this dude *thinks* we're all gold digging girls who only think about ourselves, I'm so glad that you have proven him wrong and you provide me with faith and truth. xoxo
The whole idea in doing this show to begin with was to have a good time and take a little back from this Hallmark holiday, and to provide a little love to those who need it - not just on Valentine's Day but every day.
Don't get me wrong, I know that it's a special day for significant others and I understand if you can't make it because you have sexy time plans. But please know that even if you can't donate at our show at Spaceland, there are many places where you can donate.
