NYC JOB OPP - Billboard

Hi all,

Please feel free to forward far and wide: Some of you may know that
Billboard's Jonathan Cohen is leaving his senior editor's role to
become the music booker on Jimmy Fallon's new late-night show. That
means Billboard will be hiring a new senior editor.

The job is based in New York and splits its time primarily between
assigning/editing the music section in the weekly print magazine and
editing/writing the news section every day on Billboard.com. It's an
exciting time to be attached to Billboard.com. We're in the midst of a
massive investment in and redesign of the site that will let us build
on the pretty sizable success we've already accomplished.

You've got to be super-knowledgeable about many styles of music, be a
hound for news, write and edit fast clean copy, speak the web fluently
(especially the opportunities presented in the mobile, social and
multimedia parts of it) and be a nice person.

This is not an entry level job, or a chance to prove yourself for the
first time. We're looking for several years (minimum) of experience
doing all or most of the above.

Anyone interested, please send me a resume. We're going to move as
quickly as possible on this one.

Thanks!

Please email me if you're interested and i'll forward along.
I am just the messenger and this is all I know.

Daptones robbed

Friends and associates,

As you may have heard through the grapevine by now, Daptone was broken into last night. Unfortunately, there was a lot of equipment (mics, pre-amps, monitors, turntables, guitars, amps, computers, etc.) stolen and damaged. It is going to take us a while to go through everything and take full stock of what was stolen, and we are not supposed to touch anything until the cops come back to collect fingerprints so we can only guess what's missing from some mic drawers and cabinets. And, no, we did not have insurance. We had been shopping around with different companies earlier this month but had not signed a check, so nothing was insured. We are working on replacing the gate in front, installing an alarm system, and getting insurance, but it is President's day so it's not going as quickly as we would have liked. Nydia's computer was stolen (which wasn't backed up) and the modems/phone system was ripped out, so we'll be relatively out of commission for a few days.

I would like to ask for everyone's help first in keeping an eye out for all of our stuff showing up on ebay/craigslist/local music shops, and secondly (and more realistically) keeping an eye out for good deals on headphones, mics, pre-amps, etc. I could really use a heads up on any kind of studio package for sale or studio equipment to be possibly bought or borrowed as soon as possible. We have a session scheduled for Friday to lay down some music for (I know this sounds surreal) Rod Stewart, and I'm going to have to get the studio running by then. I know I'm going to need to find headphones, mics, and pre-amps by then. I'm not sure what else yet.

Upon first glance we are definitely missing:
Fender Super Guitar Amp in case
Fender Deluxe Guitar Amp
A whole bunch of headphones and wires
Nydia's HP laptop computer
One Desktop MacIntosh Computer
One Purple Audio API style lunchbox with
four Purple Audio Biz mic pre-amps
2 Yamaha NS10 monitors
Vintage Harmony Rocket Guitar
One steel string acoustic guitar
Martin Tenor sax in a gig bag
Technics 1200 turntable
Ion USB turntable
Teac Receiver/stereo amp
Sony dual deck CD burner/player
All of our modem/phone system stuff was ripped out and taken.
A whole bunch of condensor and dynamic microphones (I still need to figure out exactly what's missing)
The power supply for my Trident console was tossed and the board was moved (probably not gently) so the status of that is still questionable.
A baldwin organ was tossed and is probably broken.
Lacie External hard drive

Over the next few days, as we sort out the rubble, we are going to figure out what else we lost.

We are putting in a roll down front gate, alarm system, and finally getting our insurance happening this week. We are also going to hire a security guard to watch the house for tonight as the cops and alarm guy seemed pretty confident that they will be back with a truck now that they've seen what's in here.

Thanks for keeping eyes open for us. AND PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ALONG TO ANYONE YOU THINK MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP US.

Thankfully, we all still have our health, ambition, tape machines, and sense of humor in tact. You can slow us down, but you can't stop us. Sleep well knowing we here at Daptone will continue to...

Keep putting Soul up,

Gabriel Roth

P.S. On a lighter note, it seems like the burglars did drop a few items in order to lift Alex's old safe out of here, which was VERY heavy, VERY unwieldy, and also VERY EMPTY!

Bummer: Gang Gang dance lost their gear in a fire last night.

Go buy some GGD mp3s or CDs!

TOUR CANCELLED DUE TO FIRE....
hello all......very sad news from GGD camp today. We are in Amsterdam after having played the first of what was meant to be 14 shows in Europe and the UK. Last nights show was really great and a big thank you to everyone that came out for it....we had a blast, but unfortunately our morning was a bit tragic. We stored our gear in the club last night and when we arrived there today to pick it up and head off to Brussels for tonights show, we were informed that an electrical fire had occurred in the very room where our stuff was stashed. We didnt really know the scope of how bad the fire was until we arrived on the scene to find every piece of equipment we own scattered out in the parking lot...melted, charred, and still smoldering. Most of our gear is way beyond repair and the small amount of stuff that looks as if it wasnt physically destroyed by the fire itself has all been doused by the firehoses. So we have been left with synths that are melted, a charred guitar, cases full of wet pedals and cables, drums that are nothing but the metal rims, amps that look as if they've been doused in tar...the list goes on. It is really devastating for us as our equipment is very specific and without it we cant do much of anything. Most of our memory cards for our samplers melted so we've lost a bunch of jams that we were really looking forward to playing for you all. While we did entertain the thought of just renting or borrowing a bunch of random gear and somehow continuing the tour and just improvising every night, it just doesn't seem like its going to work out. While it would be fun and we'd love to stick this out for everyone that was excited to see us, we feel like we came to perform a certain set of songs and if we cant do that then its probably best to just come back again when we have the necessary gear to do so. On top of that we are stuck here in Amsterdam until we are able to meet with the insurance company that is dealing with the fire, if we were to leave then we would risk losing out on the compensation that will be necessary for us to build our equipment back up.
As i said its all really devastating and we wish nothing more then to be in Brussels tonight (we were super excited about that show!) and to be able to continue on with our tour, but there is really no way for that to happen given the circumstances.
We are hoping to come back asap and make up for all this and we really want to thank everyone who bought tickets and everyone who was planning on coming out to the shows on this tour. It looked as if it was going to be one of our best yet thanks to y'all.......
See you when the smoke clears. peace and respect------GGD
