LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - High winds caused power outages for about 130,000 electricity customers in Southern California on Thursday afternoon, utility company officials said.

The hardest-hit area was in Los Angeles County where the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power noted about 91,000 outages around 4 p.m. PDT, an LADWP spokeswoman said.

The numbers were climbing, she said, and are likely to increase.

"Because the numbers are so great, it will take at least 10 to 12 hours before service can be restored to most of the customers," said LADWP spokeswoman Gale Harris.
