Assistant Web Developer- Southern California Public Radio (Pasadena/

Reports to: Senior
Producer, Online
The Assistant Web Developer will work closely with the Web Developer
and New Media Staff to aid in the creation, production and maintenance
of online initiatives for Southern California Public Radio (SCPR) and
KPCC.org. He/She works in a creative and technical capacity to build
and maintain underlying and top-level systems that support high-volume
digital content distribution for SCPR audiences. Candidate will work
in a hands-on capacity to build and maintain the KPCC.org/SCPR.org web
site and online tools. The Assistant Web Developer works on a variety
of New Media platform products including Web sites, iPhone apps,
mobile websites, blogs, streaming and downloadable audio and video
services, RSS feeds, podcasts, wikis, e-mail newsletters, Flash
applications, and more. Candidate will report to the Senior Producer,
Online at Southern California Public Radio in Los Angeles.Position Responsibility:
• Responds to daily production priorities and Web development
requests defined and assigned by the Senior Producer Online and the
Web Developer.
* Works in conjunction with Web Developer to create and support
systems which allow New Media and other staff to build, maintain and
deliver online content via a broad range of vehicles, including Web
sites, mobile devices, streaming and downloaded media, subscribable
content (newsletters, podcasts, etc.).
* Checks work for CSS and HTML accuracy and browser compatibility.
* Stays current with emerging trends in multimedia to ensure SCPR
digital uses the latest technologies.
• Contributes to the vision and planning of activities to
advance the various SCPR platforms.
* Performs other duties as assigned or requested.Required Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in computer science,
journalism, media, communications, design and/or equivalent experience.
• Experience in web development with HTML/CSS mastery and
fluency in other Web scripting languages such as Python, Ruby, and PHP.
• Experience with a full-stack MVC web framework. (we use
Django)
• Experience with development of MySQL database-driven Web
sites.
• Experience with streaming and downloadable media formats and
systems required.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
* Comfortable on the command line
* Experience with DVCS (we use Git)
• Ability to work under heavy deadline pressure.* Ability to work with little supervision.
* HTML/CSS mastery, with a Passion for web standards
• Solid oral and written communication skills.
• Solid information architecture sensibility.
• Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
environment.
• Familiarity with communicating technical requirementsPreferred Skills and Experience:
• Experience in working with large-scale, consumer-oriented
Web sites
• Experience with media sites.
• Django/Python experience
• Experience with JS frameworks (we use jQuery)
• Familiarity with basic Linux/Apache maintenance
