Special Events Coordinator- St Baldrick's Foundation (Pasadena, CA) 
The mission of the St. Baldrick's Foundation is to raise awareness and   
funds to cure kids' cancer by supporting cancer research and   
fellowships. While coordinating hundreds of head-shaving events   
worldwide, we work to provide a fun and rewarding experience for all   
participants. 
Since 2000, over 106,000 shavees have shaved their heads at over 2,400   
St. Baldrick's events, raising over 68 million dollars, with head   
shavings in 50 U.S states, Washington D.C and 24 countries. 
The foundation makes grants to research organizations and funds local   
institutions and cooperative research on a national scale to help   
doctors work together to develop the best treatments for all children   
with cancer. 
Position Summary 

This position is responsible for coaching, training, and volunteer   
management of special events including but not limited to St.   
Baldrick's head-shavings. This person will also be focused on   
supporting volunteer event organizers, shavees and others by answering   
questions, coaching and providing assistance as necessary.   
Responsibilities include interviewing and training volunteers;   
planning, and directing work; appraising performance; recognizing and   
guiding volunteers; addressing complaints and resolving problems. This   
position requires ongoing and regular communication with all assigned   
volunteers to coordinate logistics behind an event. The Special Events   
Coordinator will work effectively under pressure to deliver results in   
a fast-paced environment, and conduct duties professionally with the   
public, volunteers and fellow co-workers. 

Primary Responsibilities 
• Recruit new event sites and support and coach volunteers for events   
in order to grow participation and revenue. 
• Guide volunteer organizers through the process of organizing and   
hosting a St. Baldrick's event on matters related to date and site   
selection, donation handling, event and volunteer management. 
• Will serve as a resource for recruiting volunteers, shavees and   
barbers. 
• Will troubleshoot local and overall issues relating to the event. 
• Provide guidance to volunteers for publicity, fundraising and   
awareness. 
• Manage event support including email/phone contact with participants. 
• Website monitoring and first response to email and phone inquiries   
from volunteers and participants using triage approach to handling   
each request uniquely and appropriately. 
• Project-manage areas of special events production in pre, during and   
post phases of planning and follow-up. 
• Provide guidance and support in use and updating of website, to   
include addition of photos, and event details and participant   
information. 
• Help volunteers fulfill their personal ambitions for involvement. 
• Coach organizers of non-head-shaving events as needed to produce   
successful events. 

Position Requirements 
• Work habits characterized by maturity, professionalism, good   
judgment, diplomacy and tact with a commitment to the foundation's   
mission. 
• Minimum 2 years experience coordinating and planning events. 
• Project management experience. 
• Exceptional communications skills, both oral and written are   
essential (including some public speaking). 
• Good interpersonal, organizational and time management skills. 
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment to handle   
and prioritize multiple projects. 
• Computer proficient. Skilled knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel,   
Outlook and the Internet. 
• Ability to work seasonal overtime – both nights and weekends may be   
required. 
• Occasional travel will be required.
